I, too, have self-centered family members that only call when they want something. I have distanced myself because I am just not like that and have a hard time saying ‘no’! I make sure my kids understand that family is there for each other and it’s not all about ‘you’ so we are pretty close to each other. I hope as they become adults (my son will be 18 in 5 months) this will never change! :]

Good post! Sadly, I’ve seen how some of my hubby’s family members have betrayed his trust, but he still loves them. He tells me he knows they will be there for him whenever he needs. I do not find these words comforting. They pretty much only contact him when they want something and I think they only care about themselves. I put on the happy face around them but keep them at a distance.

I Have a co-worker that evidently feels the need to highlight the mistakes people around her makes so she feels better about herself. She’s not exactly a hypocryte, though, because when she talks about you, she does it in front of you, but it’s still annoying… or… I don’t know, ‘annoying’ isn’t the appropriate word.
Anyway, good post. I like people being that honest.
